认识周梅元时，他尚在读高中，清瘦间透出一股自信和灵秀，自我介绍说在习画。后来看到他的一些作品，是国画的山水和花鸟，风格近似宋元，有一股清雅、古拙之气，令人印象深刻。

后来在他大学学习油画期间，也一直没有间断过国画山水和花鸟的创作，而画面风格依然延续宋元。宋元画的主要精神是崇尚自然，关怀人性，这种精神在他不断的国画创作过程中逐渐成为自己艺术思想的一部分，而这种艺术思想，对他后来的油画创作有着深远的影响。

从认识到现在转眼十三年过去了，如今的他已是一家知名艺术机构的签约艺术家。在他所有写实油画作品中，都有一股静逸、清雅、纯朴的艺术气质，他对物象的描绘并不完全照搬原物的真实，而是自觉地把宋元名画中诗性、宁静、尊崇人性的精神溶于自己的创作之中，我相信这源于他卓越的艺术天赋和多年临习宋元名画而吸收的营养。在他的油画作品中没有看到浮躁、虚伪和无病呻吟，这点在虚华、浮躁充斥于世的今天，尤其难能可贵。

我从事古玩和艺术品收藏近20年了，也常在一些会议上讲解收藏与鉴赏的知识，与许多成名艺术家也是朋友，但尤其让我觉得幸运的是，能在多年前就认识周梅元这样年轻的优秀艺术家，是他通过他的作品让我真正明白了艺术永恒的真谛——那就是对人和自然要出自本性的热爱!
